Imbros

Imbros Gorge stands out as a favored trekking spot in Crete. Stretching about 8 kilometers in length, it serves as a more manageable alternative compared to the renowned Samaria Gorge. However, this doesn’t diminish its appeal and it remains a must-visit.

Kicking off in the village of Imbros, the trail eventually concludes in Komitades. Throughout this journey, it guides hikers through some remarkably tight spots, with certain sections narrowing to just two meters. As you continue along, you’ll be greeted by the sights and sounds of local plants and birds, enhancing the trekking ambiance.

One of the trail’s highlights includes the intriguing overhead rock formations, which have been meticulously sculpted over centuries. Additionally, as you meander through, you’ll encounter small streams that intermittently cross the path, adding to the overall charm. While the terrain isn’t overly daunting, it remains prudent to equip oneself with sturdy shoes and to carry essentials like water and snacks. Interestingly, the gorge tends to maintain cooler temperatures than its surroundings, thanks largely to its altitude and the generous shade provided by towering rock formations.
